What could be the cause of video frame drops on PC when watching online streaming platforms?
I have been experiencing video frame drops on PC when watching online streaming platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. The frame drops are around 10-15 fps, as shown by the inbuilt player stats viewer. This problem has been occurring for the past few months, and I have not been able to find a solution.
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps, but none of them have worked:
Closing all other applications except Chrome and file explorer
Running Chrome in Incognito mode with no extensions
Updating drivers
Turning hardware acceleration on and off
Switching between two different internet providers with different underground cabling
The frame drops only happen on PC, not on mobile devices. The frame drops also stop when I go fullscreen, but I prefer to watch in theatre mode. I do not use Twitch's theatre mode, but the problem persists regardless.
I
am looking for any expert advice or suggestions on how to fix this issue. I might have missed some other possible causes or solutions, so I appreciate any feedback.
